Thermodynamics of an Attractive 2D Fermi Gas.

چکیده
Thermodynamic properties of matter are conveniently expressed as functional relations between variables known as equations of state. Here we experimentally determine the compressibility, density, and pressure equations of state for an attractive 2D Fermi gas in the normal phase as a function of temperature and interaction strength. In 2D, interacting gases exhibit qualitatively different features to those found in 3D. This is evident in the normalized density equation of state, which peaks at intermediate densities corresponding to the crossover from classical to quantum behavior.

Analytic thermodynamics and thermometry of Gaudin-Yang Fermi gases.
We study the thermodynamics of a one-dimensional attractive Fermi gas (the Gaudin-Yang model) with spin imbalance. The exact solution has been known from the thermodynamic Bethe ansatz for decades, but it involves an infinite number of coupled nonlinear integral equations whose physics is difficult to extract. Here the solution is analytically reduced to a simple, powerful set of four algebraic...
متن کاملGround-state pressure of quasi-2D Fermi and Bose gases.
Using an ultracold gas of atoms, we have realized a quasi-two-dimensional Fermi system with widely tunable s-wave interactions nearly in a ground state. Pressure and density are measured. The experiment covers physically different regimes: weakly and strongly attractive Fermi gases and a Bose gas of tightly bound pairs of fermions. In the Fermi regime of weak interactions, the pressure is syste...
متن کاملUniversal Thermodynamics of a Strongly Interacting Fermi Gas
We study the properties of an optically-trapped, Fermi gas of Li atoms, near the center of a broad Feshbach resonance, where strong interactions are observed. Strongly interacting Fermi gases exhibit universal behavior, and are of interest as models of exotic systems ranging from high temperature superconductors to neutron stars and quark-gluon plasmas. We measure the frequency and damping rate...
متن کاملPerturbative thermodynamic geometry of nonextensive ideal classical, Bose, and Fermi gases.
We investigate perturbative thermodynamic geometry of nonextensive ideal classical, Bose, and Fermi gases. We show that the intrinsic statistical interaction of nonextensive Bose (Fermi) gas is attractive (repulsive) similar to the extensive case but the value of thermodynamic curvature is changed by a nonextensive parameter. In contrary to the extensive ideal classical gas, the nonextensive on...
متن کاملThermodynamic signatures for topological phase transitions to Majorana and Weyl superfluids in ultracold Fermi gases
We discuss the thermodynamic signatures for the topological phase transitions into Majorana and Weyl superfluid phases in ultracold Fermi gases in two and three dimensions (2D and 3D) in the presence of Rashba spin-orbit coupling and a Zeeman field. We analyze the thermodynamic properties exhibiting the distinct nature of the topological phase transitions linked with the Majorana fermions (2D F...
